Should I Stay, or Should I Go?

There’s an old Jimmy Durante song that went, “Did you ever have the feeling that you wanted to go but then you had the feeling that you wanted to stay?” Then there’s  “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” by The Clash. (There, I’ve successfully related to at least two distinct generations of music/movie lovers).  Recently, a lot of people have been asking me a similar question about selling their home.

I have visited with folks in the Lake Norman region that have tried to sell their home and had no success, and they are asking me if they should keep it on the market or take it off until the future looks brighter. My answer is the same one that I used to respond to most of my college professors while working on my Master’s degree -“It depends.” (It seems, I found out, that unlike in undergrad studies, graduate professors actually expect you to apply critical thinking and come to your own conclusions, so “it depends” saved me more than once.)

Anyway, back to real estate. Staying or going, in my opinion, depends on what you are trying to accomplish through the sale of your home. If you are relocating, dealing with a long commute, or are in over your head financially because of an adjustable rate loan, the real question you need to ask is “What do I need to do to sell this house?”

I have written several articles here that can help you with the answer to that question, so I won’t repeat myself. Search previous posts for that help. But if you are trying to sell a home in Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius,  Huntersville, or anywhere in the Lake Norman area od North Carolina, do not be disheartened by what you see on the TV news. We are still experiencing decent price realization on sold properties, and buyer activity is pretty strong considering it is November. This is as good a time as any to accomplish your real estate goals.

If you have questions about your home, or would just like to know what it’s worth today, give me a call at 704-578-4778 and ask for my free property evaluation. I’d be happy to help. Email me with questions at fpark@c21hecht.com.
